Fort Belvoir Visitors Center - We stayed at Fort Belvoir Travel Camp at SITE 39 overlooking the Potomac River in May 2021. We loved it and plan to return!

As I mentioned earlier, thanks to Kevin's army duty and discharge classification (only some allowed), we are able to use these FAM camps or of travel above the military base. (all branches of service) and in most cases RVers can use PX Commissar and other basic services.

Accommodation prices (we paid $47 per night in May 2021) may not be cheaper than the posted rate at nearby private camps, but security is exceptional, you just know you're camping at the alongside other military personnel, and some bases have swimming pools, hairdressers, gyms, etc. the other basic services are really nice. The National Museum Of The U.s. Army Opens In Virginia
PLACE, PLACE, PLACE! Easy access to many historic sites including I-95, Washington DC, Alexandria and Historic Frederickburg, VA and Mount Vernon.
Main entrance gate of the FAM camp. No more staff, check in is at the recreation building nearby. Pay attention to the signs, they are easy to miss.
The public bath has exterior doors leading to one of these full bathrooms, each with a private shower. Access from both ends of the building. Very private, secure and immaculate.
Kevin said ALL service rules should be like this. This camp is less than 10 years old and very well maintained.
Must See Experiences At The Us Army Museum
Our timing for Memorial Day at Fort Belvoir wasn't perfect in hindsight. DC was a crowd scene, and many DC museums we've never seen before are still closed or in very limited pre-booking time admission passes due to Covid-19. It was a shame, but we had a great full day in nearby (about a 35 minute drive) from Fredericksburg, VA. We had a great "German Meal" in downtown Deutschland and had fun visiting historic buildings. In our opinion, well worth the day trip. OH… and did I mention that there is a large IKEA store about 15 minutes from the campsite? Yeah…I dropped a few coins there another day too! We also took a quick trip to Mount Vernon just to visit its bookstores and gift shops, as we've been there several times to reinvigorate our living history, so no need to circle around on this visit.
